Around Town
Originally built over 100 years ago by a mining company, Inverness has come a long way, especially in recent years. The town has made a concerted effort to beautify the main street and the merchants have done their part. Many residences have been improved as well. New structures both residential and commercial are evident and very attractive. A links golf course is being constructed along the beach on the site of the old coal mines. Inverness beach is one of the best on the island as it is lengthy, sandy rather than rocky, and quite deep. Located on the "sunset side" of the island, the beach is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
