Overview:

Located on the Atlantic Ocean, in the village of Gabarus, this delightful, attractive, and comfortable home has the feeling of remote - yet is within 30 minute's drive of Sydney and all shopping. The airport and regional hospital are about 40 minutes away. It has been very extensively remodeled, totally rewired, re-plumbed, re-insulated, and re-roofed. All of the walls have been dry-walled. The house was raised, and a full, dry, concrete basement added. The heating system is very modern with two heat pumps, an oil furnace, and a large wood stove. There is a back-up generator. It is quiet, private, and has 500 feet of bay beach front and 1000 feet of Slattery's Lake shoreline. The furnishings are not included, but all appliances remain. There is a magnificent, large master bedroom and fireplace, 2 additional bedrooms, its own floating dock, endless beach walks, and the vast Atlantic outside the bay. This is a particularly attractive haven in an increasingly unstable world.

Comments:

The job of refurbishing, lifting, and completely redoing this building is apparent on entry. It is quality work with very pleasing and comfortable results, being right on the beach as well as on the edge of a lake on which is a floating dock, provides almost unlimited walks and activities. A pair of eagles nest close by and various sea birds and wild life abound.

Two large areas surrounding Gabarus Bay are public lands. One, the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site of Canada, is owned by the Crown (to the North). The fort itself occupies only a small portion of this designated area and the part that is visible from the property is completely undeveloped. On the other side of the bay is provincial land known as the Gabarus Wilderness Area. Not only do these large tracts of land add to the privacy factor, they provide and protect the pristine character of the fantastic panoramic view from many vantage points along the shores.
